Learn how to stay grounded, capable, and confident — even when things shift unexpectedly. This class is birth-centered, but contains knowledge you can use far into motherhood. We’ll share stories, snacks, and laughs together while learning The Layers of Support.
This 4-hour workshop runs monthly at various locations throughout the Peoria area. It’s designed for first-time moms who want more than a traditional birth class — women who are craving honest conversation, emotional preparation, practical tools, and a deeper understanding of what actually shapes the experience of birth and early motherhood.
Next Class: Friday, July 10 from 12-4 pm (Peoria Heights)

Most birth education
focuses heavily on the physiological process of labor and creating a plan. And while those things absolutely matter, many people still leave feeling emotionally underprepared for the unpredictability of birth itself.
You can take the classes, fill out the birth plan template, pack the hospital bag five weeks early, practice comfort measures, read the books… and still find yourself wondering:
“But what do I actually DO when things start shifting in real time?”
Because birth doesn’t always unfold neatly.
Plans change. Emotions rise. Decisions happen quickly. Support dynamics matter. The nervous system matters. The environment matters.
And in those moments, what people often need most isn’t more information…it’s steadiness.
That’s where this workshop is different.
Built for Birth is designed to help you understand what actually shapes a person’s experience during birth and early motherhood, so you can move through it feeling more grounded, supported, and capable, even when things don’t go exactly according to plan.
We’ll use a simple framework called the Layers of Support to explore the emotional, relational, physical, and environmental pieces that are often missing from traditional birth prep.
The goal isn’t perfect control.
It’s feeling confident enough to navigate the unknown.

FAQ
-
Built for Birth is more conversation-based and holistic than a traditional hospital-style class.
While we do cover practical birth preparation and decision-making tools, the focus is less on memorizing information and more on helping you feel supported, grounded, and confident in birth and early motherhood.
-
Most birth classes focus heavily on the childbirth alone.
This workshop focuses on:
support
nervous system regulation
decision-making
emotional preparation
postpartum realities
understanding what actually shapes experience
You’ll leave with a practical framework called the Layers of Support that helps you think through birth and postpartum in a more grounded way.
-
Not at all.
This class is supportive of all birth preferences and focuses on autonomy, informed decision-making, and feeling supported — not pushing one “right” way to give birth. (I’ll be sharing a little about my own 3 different experiences!)
-
Yes! Postpartum and the transition into motherhood are intentionally woven throughout the workshop.
Many people prepare heavily for birth but feel emotionally unprepared for what comes afterward. This class takes a more whole-picture approach.
-
Both.
There will be structured teaching throughout the workshop, but it’s intentionally interactive and conversational.
There’s space to:
ask questions
reflect
participate in discussion
hear from others in the room
learn through real-life scenarios and examples
You’re also welcome to simply listen and absorb.
-
At this time, this workshop is intentionally designed as a pregnant-person-centered space.
Because the class is deeply conversational and reflective, I’ve found that people tend to open up more freely and feel more comfortable in a room of peers navigating similar experiences.
The tools and frameworks shared in class can absolutely be brought home and shared with partners/support people afterward.
-
No, but it’s a great fit for people who want guidance and support-oriented preparation, whether or not they plan to hire a doula.
-
Any time during pregnancy can be beneficial, but most people will likely get the most from the workshop during the second or third trimester.
-
Just yourself, comfortable clothing, water, and ANYTHING that helps you feel cozy and settled. Well, except your pet. (I highly suggest a blanket and pillow, seriously!)
A notebook/journal is recommended but optional if you enjoy taking notes or reflecting during discussion.
-
That’s completely normal. I would feel the same anxiety!
This workshop is intentionally designed to feel welcoming, conversational, and low-pressure. Most people come in not knowing anyone and often leave feeling much more connected and supported.
-
Because space is intentionally limited for this workshop, registrations are non-refundable. Please read the next section on the attendance minimum.
If an emergency comes up, please reach out. I understand that pregnancy and life can be unpredictable, and I’ll always do my best to handle situations with care and flexibility. (IE - you’ll get your money’s worth. Remember, I wear lots of hats! And I will do my best to meet you where you’re at).
⚠️ Important Registration Details:
The July 10 workshop is the very first in-person Built for Birth class (!!) (WOOHOO!) After teaching online for the last several years, I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS!
Here are some things you need to know:
Beta Group - This first cohort is being offered at a reduced rate of $147 as I refine and expand the workshop experience through feedback, discussion, and community. You will be asked to fill out an intake form (so I can provide better class material) and a feedback form after the workshop is over. Future workshops will increase in price as the experience evolves.
Minimum Attendance Requirement - A minimum of 8 pre-registrations is required by July 1, 2026 for the workshop to proceed. If the minimum is not met, your card will not be charged and the workshop will be canceled.
⚠️What To Expect:
This is a 4-hour, in-person workshop designed to feel more like a thoughtful gathering than a traditional classroom experience.
You can count on:
a cozy, small-group environment
guided discussion + practical teaching
reflection prompts and real-life scenarios
honest conversation about birth, support, and postpartum
nervous system-focused preparation
space to ask questions or simply listen in
floor seating/yoga mats with flexible seating options available
light refreshments + a short break midway through
This is not a lecture-heavy or highly clinical birth class.
The goal is not to memorize every possible outcome — it’s to help you feel more steady, supported, and capable in birth and early motherhood.
