This 4-hour workshop runs monthly at various locations throughout the Peoria area. Most birth education

focuses heavily on the physiological process of labor and creating a plan. And while those things absolutely matter, many people still leave feeling emotionally underprepared for the unpredictability of birth itself.

You can take the classes, fill out the birth plan template, pack the hospital bag five weeks early, practice comfort measures, read the books… and still find yourself wondering:

“But what do I actually DO when things start shifting in real time?”

Because birth doesn’t always unfold neatly.

Plans change. Emotions rise. Decisions happen quickly. Support dynamics matter. The nervous system matters. The environment matters.

And in those moments, what people often need most isn’t more information…it’s steadiness.

That’s where this workshop is different.

Built for Birth is designed to help you understand what actually shapes a person’s experience during birth and early motherhood, so you can move through it feeling more grounded, supported, and capable, even when things don’t go exactly according to plan.

We’ll use a simple framework called the Layers of Support to explore the emotional, relational, physical, and environmental pieces that are often missing from traditional birth prep.

The goal isn’t perfect control.
It’s feeling confident enough to navigate the unknown.

Curious about what we’ll talk about?

Sydney Parlier is a birthworker, educator, mother of three, and college student working toward a degree in Human Development & Family Studies.

For the past several years, she has worked alongside families in the birth space as a doula, program leader, educator, and advocate. Through that work, she began noticing a pattern: many people were leaving birth classes with information, but still feeling unsure of themselves when it came time to actually give birth, navigate postpartum, and make the transition into motherhood.

That observation became the foundation for Built for Birth.

Sydney believes that positive experiences are built layer by layer—not through perfect plans, but through strong support, understanding, flexibility, and self-trust. Her approach combines practical birth education with conversations about the emotional, relational, and often-overlooked aspects of becoming a mother.

Known for her grounded presence and thoughtful teaching style, Sydney creates spaces that feel more like a gathering than a classroom. Participants can expect honest conversations, real-life examples, reflection, laughter, and a welcoming environment where questions are encouraged and no one is expected to have it all figured out.

When she's not teaching or supporting families, you'll likely find her having adventures with her kids, studying for classes, hanging at the local park, tending native plants in the garden, or dreaming about future projects that bring community and support back into the parenting experience.

Sydney lives in a rural area just outside of Peoria IL with her family and is passionate about helping women enter birth and motherhood feeling more steady, supported, and capable — regardless of how their journey unfolds.
